Matt Basgall represents the Clovis City Council, first elected in December 2022. He spent about 29 years in Clovis law enforcement, rising from officer to Chief of Police overseeing a department serving more than 100,000 residents, before retiring and becoming Director of School Security at California Health Sciences University. He is a graduate of California State University, Stanislaus, and also chairs the Men’s Leadership Council for the Marjaree Mason Center, a domestic-violence services nonprofit he previously chaired as a board member. He initially announced he would not seek re-election in 2026, citing a family illness, but reversed course in April 2026, setting up an incumbent-versus-incumbent race against fellow Councilmember Diane Pearce under Clovis’s newly adopted district-based election system.
