Oscar J. Garcia, a CPA, is Fresno County’s Auditor-Controller/Treasurer-Tax Collector, appointed to the position in October 2016 to fill an unexpired term, then winning election outright in November 2018 and re-election in June 2022; his current term runs through January 2027. As the county’s chief financial officer, he oversees auditing, treasury management, and tax collection.
During his 2018 re-election campaign, it was publicly revealed that Garcia had pleaded no contest in 2001 to a charge under California Penal Code section 647.6(a), annoying or molesting a child under 18 with sexual motivation; the charge was dismissed a year later under the terms of a plea agreement that required him to stay out of further trouble. The disclosure led several of his endorsers, including two county supervisors, the Fresno County Democratic Party, and the Central Labor Council, to withdraw their support, while three other supervisors continued to back him.
