Esmeralda Hurtado represents District 1 on the Sanger City Council, appointed in 2019 and elected to a full term in 2020, then re-elected unopposed in November 2024 for a term through November 2028; she has been described as the youngest woman to serve on the council. Her sister, State Senator Melissa Hurtado, previously served on the same council before her own election to the legislature.
