Kazarian has drawn attention for a public dispute with Fowler Mayor Juan Mejia, who barred him from speaking at an Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day memorial event at Donny Wright Park; Mejia was quoted comparing Kazarian’s request to speak to showing up uninvited at “a quinceañera… in the park,” a comment that drew criticism, including from the Fresno Bee, for unfairly excluding a fellow elected official from a memorial tied to his own family history. Kazarian has also raised questions at council meetings about city infrastructure projects, including the Well No. 9 Drought Resiliency Project.
