Amarjeet Gill serves as Mayor Pro Tem on the Fowler City Council and as Vice Chairwoman of the Selma-Kingsburg-Fowler County Sanitation District board, the joint-powers agency that handles wastewater service for the three cities. Fowler’s mayor and mayor pro tem are selected by the council from among its elected members rather than run for directly.
During Fowler’s fiscal year budget review in June 2026, Gill pressed the council on several line items: she questioned a roughly $7,200 quarterly cost for the city newsletter and suggested exploring cheaper in-house or mailed alternatives, and flagged more than $3,300 in late fees the city had paid to an insurance broker. She also pushed back on a proposal to start longevity pay for city employees after five years of service, preferring a ten-year threshold, resulting in a 2-2 tie vote on that provision. On a proposed new police department staff position, she argued that jumping directly from a Community Service Officer salary to a senior staff analyst salary was too large an increase and recommended classifying it instead as a “crime analyst” position at a more modest pay level; a motion adopting that classification passed unanimously with her support.
