Fresno State Signs Largest-Ever Athletics Deal, Putting Corporate Logos on Every Team’s Uniforms

Fresno State Athletics has signed a five-year agreement with The Wonderful Company that will put corporate logos on the jerseys of all 18 Bulldogs sports teams starting this fall. The deal is the most lucrative corporate partnership in the university’s history, surpassing the $10 million Valley Children’s Stadium naming-rights contract.

Each team will wear a patch representing one of three Wonderful Company brands: Wonderful Pistachios, Wonderful Halos mandarins, or POM Wonderful. Wonderful Pistachios logos will also appear on the 25-yard lines at football games. The company’s branding will extend to concessions, bookstores, special events, and the campus Kennel Marketplace.

“This partnership helps tell the story of who we are as a valley, as a region defined by hard work, innovation, agriculture, service, and extraordinary people,” said Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval.

Athletics Director Garrett Klassy said the university had multiple potential sponsors but chose The Wonderful Company for its valley ties. “We didn’t want to partner with just anyone. We needed to partner with someone that was authentically the Valley,” he said. “This isn’t a company searching for connection to our region. Wonderful employs people here. They operate businesses here and produce products here.”

The Wonderful Company employs roughly 3,000 people in the Central Valley, including over 75 Fresno State alumni, according to Seth Oster, the company’s chief corporate affairs officer.

Players will wear the branded patches for the first time when the Bulldogs face USC on September 4. Klassy said the university has no plans for additional jersey-patch deals but hinted at possible future sponsorships for helmet branding, goalposts, and field aprons.

The Breakdown

  • The five-year deal is Fresno State Athletics’ largest corporate partnership ever, exceeding the $10 million Valley Children’s Stadium naming-rights contract
  • All 18 Bulldogs sports teams will wear jersey patches featuring one of three Wonderful Company brands: Wonderful Pistachios, Wonderful Halos, or POM Wonderful
  • Wonderful Pistachios logos will appear on both 25-yard lines at football games
  • The partnership includes branding in concessions, bookstores, special events, and the Kennel Marketplace
  • The deal was facilitated by Bulldog Sports Enterprises, the athletics department’s multimedia rights partner

What This Means for You

This deal reflects how universities now fund athletics: corporate sponsorships that turn student-athletes into walking billboards. The financial terms weren’t disclosed, so the public doesn’t know how much this “largest deal ever” actually is.

The partnership frames itself as valley pride — hometown company, local jobs, Bulldog alumni on the payroll. That’s a real connection, and it matters. But it’s also a calculation: The Wonderful Company gets visibility on every Fresno State uniform, at every game, for five years. Whether that’s a fair trade depends on what the university is getting in return, and the material doesn’t say.

it is worth noting that “POM” Wonderful is the largest agricultural company in the world, worth over half a billion dollars, and over $100 million in revenue annually.  They have been sued for misleading advertising while facing scrutiny for its generous water rights.

What to Watch

The terms of this deal — the actual dollar amount, how the money will be spent, and whether it replaces public funding or supplements it — aren’t disclosed in the material. That’s the first thing worth asking for: a university making its “largest corporate partnership ever” should be able to state what that partnership is worth and where the money goes.

The framing of this as “authentically the Valley” is doing real work here — it positions a corporate branding deal as an expression of regional identity rather than a commercial transaction. Is that distinction meaningful, or is it cover for turning student-athletes into advertising platforms? The Wonderful Company employs 3,000 people locally and over 75 Fresno State alumni, according to the company itself — that’s a real tie, but it’s also the kind of tie that makes it harder to ask whether the university is getting fair value, or whether “valley pride” is being used to justify terms the public can’t see.

Athletics Director Klassy said future jersey-patch deals aren’t planned, but “stay tuned” on helmet branding, goalposts, and field aprons. How much commercial branding is too much? At what point does a university’s team stop looking like an educational institution and start looking like a billboard? Those are questions worth asking now, not after the next round of sponsorships is already signed.
