Annalisa Perea, the Democratic incumbent, is running for re-election to California’s 31st Assembly District in November 2026 against Republican challenger Jim Polsgrove, after leading a divided primary field with about 44% of the vote. Perea previously served on the Fresno City Council representing District 1 before her election to the Assembly; her former council seat is now an open race between Naindeep Singh and Rob Fuentes. She has assembled a broad establishment coalition of endorsements, including the California Democratic Party, Attorney General Rob Bonta, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer, building trades unions, and the Fresno Police Officers Association; Dyer has said of her, “She’s built on that foundation and brought new energy to the work of public service… she understands what our communities need and she knows how to get things done.”
