Keshia Thomas is running for Fresno City Council District 3 in the November 2026 election against Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula, for the seat being vacated by termed-out Councilmember Miguel Arias. She holds a bachelor’s degree in math and education along with two master’s degrees, and spent about 15 years in education, beginning as an algebra and geometry teacher at a charter school before joining Fresno Unified as a middle school math teacher and later serving as a program director and vice principal. She has served two terms as a Fresno Unified School District trustee representing the Edison High School area.
As a trustee, Thomas initially voted in February 2026 to table a resolution opposing Mayor Jerry Dyer’s large-scale Southeast Development Area growth plan, but reversed course in May 2026 and voted with the board majority to formally oppose the plan, saying she had wanted the item held until the city presented updated details; reporting at the time indicated Dyer had personally pressured trustees not to oppose the project. Thomas and Arambula emerged as the two frontrunners in the June 2026 primary for the District 3 seat.
