Vince Fong, a Republican, represents California’s 20th Congressional District, covering Bakersfield and the southern Central Valley. Born in Bakersfield, he holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a master’s in public administration from Princeton. Before Congress, he worked on international trade policy as a staffer for Representatives Bill Thomas and Kevin McCarthy, then served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2024, where he sat on budget subcommittees and the Appropriations Committee. He won a May 2024 special election to fill the vacancy left by Kevin McCarthy’s resignation and was sworn in that June, then won a full term in the November 2024 general election. In Congress, he serves on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee.
